We would like to inform the parish about the employed team at the Storrington and Sullington Parish Council:

  • There are usually two Parish Office staff, a Clerk and a Deputy, as there have been for many years; one full time Parish Clerk and also the Deputy Clerk who is currently on part-time hours.
  • There is a temporary Administration Assistant who works 16 hours per week, but this contract will not be extended due to budget constraints.
  • However, due to the high workload, the Deputy Clerk will increase her hours to become full-time in due course.
  • The Parish Clerk and Deputy Clerk work several evenings a month attending and manually recording various committee and monthly Parish Council meetings.
  • There is a misconception that the office is over-staffed. The number of contracted office hours will be 74 in 26/27 , which is significantly lower than comparable Parish Councils within the district.
  • The workload is expected to increase because of devolution and staffing levels will have to be reviewed as needed in the future.
  • There is also one Maintenance Officer and one Premises Officer as there has been for many years.
  • To get in touch with the parish team, you can use the email: office@storrington-pc.gov.uk

For a parish council serving approximately 8,500 residents and managing a precept of £376,000, employing an Deputy Clerk and part-time administrative support is proportionate, standard practice and consistent with good governance. It ensures statutory compliance, operational resilience, financial control, and value for money while reducing risk to the council and its residents.
